July 19, 2009

Well, the carnival is over and as our Lion philosopher Olayer said: "Never have so few worked so hard for so little to benefit so many!" But at least we had fun.
Lion Don was his usual refined, sedate self, almost timid in approaching the people as they passed by. That is probably the reason that the Pan Game raised $254.15 while the Darts only made $237.00. It was a slow year. There were several times that Lions Dave and Ray were almost arrested for loitering at the Pan Game. Some nights the Darts took in so little money Lion Don was almost charged with vagrancy.
But he rallied, even when one night Lion Don decided to try to break the old dart game record for pay out. At one point in the evening, money was leaving the dart game at such an astounding rate, that he appeared to be the key part of Obama's stimulus plan. At another point, he had our funds so low, the pan game had to loan him ten dollars to continue. But the crowd loved him, and with stoic determination, he rallied back to show a small profit for the evening.

Then we had the dunk tank..... Now this is a true story.
It has now been proven that the residents of Chippewa love their Chief of Police more than their Varsity Cheerleaders. They seem to prefer to see their Chief of Police plunging into that cold water than dunking a lovely young lady in a two piece swim suit.
The cheerleaders wanted to earn some money... So they were to work the dunk tank for three nights and split the money. But, due to the weather conditions, they were only able to work two evenings.
The Chief also worked two nights, and allowed us to keep all the money.

The Chief appeared to out earn the Cheerleaders by a 3-1 or 4-1margin. The dunk tank earned $779.50 . Even after almost having to treat Lion Sir for hypothermia on Saturday night, the dunk tank was successful.

So the final tally is $1,270.65.
There will be an additional amount of money "donated" to the treasury from the over-under bet between Lion Ray the Wise and Lion Don the Cocky. I'm sure more details will be discussed at the first meeting in September along with Lions Don's side of the story (and a request for an audit of the books).
